History Intent Statement

At St Mark’s Primary School, we aim to inspire children’s curiosity to know more about the past and how the past has influenced the present. Our intent is to ensure that all children are able to apply their knowledge to different contexts to understand the connections between local, regional, national and international history. We encourage learners to understand how to think like a historian, use evidence to make historical claims, think critically and analytically, and understand why people have different opinions or viewpoints. Throughout our journey at St Mark’s the children will understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change and the diversity of societies and beliefs whilst celebrating these differences. This is delivered through the children having a conceptual understanding of key historical concepts such as: continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity and differences and historical significance.
