Art & Design Intent Statement
At St. Mark’s, our pupils are taught to be independent, creative artists, who have the freedom to express and interpret their own art as well as those of others. Pupils’ learn that art is presented in different forms, understanding there is no wrong way of what art should look like.
Our Art and Design curriculum is inclusive and accessible to all children. It is our aim to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum, ensuring the progressive development of knowledge and skills.
Over time, pupils’ develop their observational skills, recording their experiences as well as using their imagination.
Our pupils’ Art and Design journey starts at Nursery and ends with Year 6. By the end of their journey at St. Mark’s, children will have gained experiences in:
- Drawing
- Collage
- Printing
- Textiles
- Sculpture
Art and Design is taught during dedicated Art & Design weeks, where children explore and develop ideas, investigate and make. All this is done through looking at the work of a range of different artists’ across each year group.
